嘉华集团主席吕志和博士多年来积极参与社会及慈善服务，在教育等领域大兴善举。早于20年前，他便已通过教育部在内地七个省份的穷困地区新建、修复了122所中小学，为失学儿童播下希望的种子；同时他亦资助了不同的香港和内地大学，并先后担任诸多公职，充分展现他对教育事业的无私奉献。
吕博士在接受《大公报》专访时感叹，因自己少时经历过国家民族积弱的苦况，所以特别希望帮助国家发展教育，以实现内心“兴学强国，教育惠民”的夙愿。他表示：“教育不是一句空洞的口号，应该是润物细无声的影响、是潜移默化的工作。我坚信一个国家要兴旺，一定要有好的人才。”
